Horoku - Bankoyaki tea roaster

19.00

You always find some old green tea sitting in your tea cabinet... What do you do?  Well, I have 2 uses for the old green tea.  I either roast to make my own Hoji cha or burn as tea incense on my Japanese ceramic tea incense burner.  This tea roaster comes from Banko yaki, a famous ceramic home ware making region near Shizuoka, where quietly making excellent understated tea wares side by side with Tokoname artists.

Put handful of teas in the roaster, put the roster over the high heat, shaking occasionally to roast evenly.  When you see white part of the tea leaves turn slightly beige or light brown, and start to smell nice and toasty, it's ready.  Remove from the heat, pour into a ceramic bowl or plate through the hole on the handle, let the tea leaves cool to touch before brewing.

Aroma from roasting the tea is absolutely delicious and we, Japanese, consider that a happy scent.  Hope you can experience the happy scent using our special Bankoyaki tea roaster!!
